This is what I consider the difference between a course and a tutorial. A course gives you something to do and checks it. A tutorial gives you instructions, but does not check your work or make sure that you do it.
If you want to quickly be able to use something, a tutorial is usually better. If you want to learn something, understand how to use it, and confirm you know it, a course is usually better.
